Last week, Eco-Products 4755 Walnut Street building received an official ENERGY STAR rating from the US EPA. This program is run by the US Environmental Protection Agency and is our nation’s leading standard for energy efficiency ratings in buildings.
ENERGY STAR ratings are designed to highlight buildings that are working towards improving energy efficiency, save money, and fight global warming. Getting certified involves auditing the facility according to the ENERGY STAR guidelines, scoring a high grade on all aspects of the building, and working with the program to get certified. Based on the successful practices of other ENERGY STAR partners, these guidelines were created for effective energy management and when they are used in businesses like Eco-Products, they can assist in improving both energy and financial performance.
As the recipient of this honor, Eco-Products joins the national registry of energy efficient buildings and is among dozens of leading companies who take energy efficiency seriously.
In our region, over 70% of our energy comes from coal and natural gas, making advances like our solar panels more important than ever. Other environmental behaviors played a part as well, such as Eco-Products sustainability data tracking program, 60% waste diversion rate, and small things like programmable thermostats, lighting timers, skylights, habits of turning computers and lights off when not in use. Even the landscaping is taken into account.
This is a great program and an honor for the company. This opportunity not only lets Eco-Products track energy use better, but helps us target improvements in efficiency so we can save money and continue to protect the environment.
